Cessange

Cessange has a surface area of 657.83 hectares and is located at the southern edge of the capital: it borders

• Merl and Hollerich; to the north; and
• Gasperich to the east.

First mentioned in 1083, the farming village of Cessange belonged to the former municipality of Hollerich. Its first school was opened in 1865 and its first parish church was constructed in 1902–03. The water tower, which is emblematic of Cessange, dates back to the 1930s.

Since the 1950s, the population of Cessange has grown steadily, making it necessary to rebuild the local school (1961) and church (1972). Today, Cessange is one of the most rapidly growing neighbourhoods in the city.
