The Grand Duchy has a strong musical tradition and offers a wide programme of events. The City of Luxembourg encourages and promotes music making in many ways: by providing a high-quality musical education programme at the Conservatoire and at local schools in the city's various neighbourhoods, and by supporting the Philharmonie, the OPL, and other event organisers such as the INECC, the European Soloists and the Luxembourg Chamber Orchestra. The LCTO also organises festivals and concerts that feature popular, classical, jazz and world music. Den Atelier is Luxembourg's lead organiser of popular music acts.
Luxembourg City Conservatoire
Over 3,800 students are taught music, dance and drama at the Conservatoire. Its concert hall, with its fantastic acoustics, hosts concerts and performances by students and international artists. The Conservatoire also has a library of books and musical scores, as well as a small museum of musical instruments.
Den Atelier is Luxembourg's lead organiser of popular music acts. It stages local and international artists at its venue on Rue de Hollerich, puts on concerts at the Rockhal and Neumünster Abbey, and also organises festivals.
QuattroPole Music Award
The QuattroPole Music Award comes with a cash prize of €10,000 and is awarded to musicians and composers who produce works in the fields of contemporary music and art music (electronic, experimental, contemporary, etc.) using innovative digital techniques, and whose works are less than five years old.
A wide range of nominees
The nominees come from a wide range of backgrounds: Some are beginners, while others are more experienced. Some are more well known to regional audiences, while others are internationally recognised artists. However, they all have one thing in common: They all have a connection with a QuattroPole city within a radius of 50 km. The nominated projects reflect a broad spectrum of musical and performance styles – ranging from electronic and pop music to music with jazz and/or classical influences and opera – which is what makes the event truly unique.
